About Your Innkeepers

Bob and Rita Sleys came to the Rosemont Inn and Utica NY by way of South Carolina, where Bob was working as a Systems Analyst for a large investment firm and Rita was “just a Mom” and homemaker. Before that, we were both doing the same jobs in our adopted home town of Bloomington, Indiana. We both grew up in Northern NJ, where we met and were married.

After having worked in the IT industry for more than 20 years, Bob decided it was time to make a major change. We began searching for an inn in the Northeast, but finding a property that we could afford and would be large enough for our family proved to be a challenge. After 2 years of searching and negotiating, we finally closed on the Rosemont Inn in July of 2004. When we first came to Utica and saw the Rosemont Inn, we knew it would be the best place for us both from a personal and business perspective. The people in Central New York are the best combination of Midwest friendly and Northeast honest and practical-what you see is what you get! We also love being near great ethnic restaurants, theaters, museums and all the natural wonders of the Adirondacks just a short drive away.

Obviously, Bob handles the more technical aspects of running the Inn such as website design and maintenance. If you have a question about WiFi or your lap top, he can definitely help you. He also helps serve breakfast along with our “charming young helpers”, as one guest dubbed our children. Breakfast is Rita’s specialty and she enjoys serving beautiful, healthy dishes. She has lots of experience with food allergies and special diets and enjoys the challenge of making something to suit you. Rita has been cooking “professionally” (for her family) for more than 15 years and strives to use local ingredients in season. Her background in counseling and love for diverse ethnic cultures has made serving our various unique guests a fulfilling experience.

Bob and Rita, along with their children all enjoy the things that make Utica and the Mohawk Valley such a wonderful place. Access to cultural events, fine dining and the Adirondacks make this place a joy. We look forward to sharing with you our unique brand of hospitality.
